Everything You Need To Know About Shopify Editions 2024

It’s that time of the year again - Shopify has released its biannual platform updates ‘Winter Editions 2024’  with lots to be excited about and some that may not live up to the hype.

Let’s dive into our favourite updates!

Improvements to Product Catalogue:

Shopify has doubled the product variant limit from 100 to 2000. This substantial enhancement is a game-changer for sellers with diverse products,  simplifying the selling of variations like sizes, colors, and materials. Customers now have an expanded array of choices.

Note this feature is currently in developer preview and will gradually roll out throughout 2024.

Enhanced Product Presentation and Display:

Shopify have introduced a ‘Combined Listings app’, a game-changer for showcasing products with multiple options. This app allows each option to showcase its unique description, streamlining efficiency and enhancing the overall customer experience.

Merchants can now group variations like colors or styles under one parent product listing while maintaining unique descriptions, galleries, and URLs for each variant.

Shopify supports this with detailed taxonomy updates and automated variant generation, providing a seamless navigation experience for merchants with extensive product lineups. Additionally, an API update supports up to 2,000 variants per product.

Improved Shopify Bundle Features:

Merchants can now bundle up to 30 items in a single package, a big leap from the previous limit of 10. This expanded limit not only enhances the customer's shopping experience but also helps to increase average order value.

They have also added Advanced customization through Shopify Scripts, only for Shopify Plus merchants. This allows the adding promotional logic into bundles, creating a personalized experience for customers.

Merchants can now create complex discounting systems, special offers, and bundle-specific customizations tailored to individual customer preferences.

Enhanced AI Features with Shopify Magic:

Say goodbye to photo editing with AI-enabled image editing. Easily  change your product photos by manipulating backgrounds, adding context, or placing models on sun-kissed beaches – all with just a few clicks or keywords.

The text generation now extends its capabilities into various sections of your Shopify Admin, encompassing Pages. Whether you require an About Us or FAQ page, a mere few clicks infused with prompt magic, and – your text is ready!

Semantic search is also here, improving  your storefront search experience. Thanks to AI, it comprehensively understands your customers' queries, transforming natural language searches into precise and relevant results.

Shopify Subscriptions:

Shopify Subscriptions is now fully released. This feature lets merchants create diverse subscription plans, manage billing cycles, and offer flexible options - all integrated into the Shopify platform.

Whether exploring curated monthly boxes, subscription-based software, or any recurring offering, Shopify Subscriptions simplifies the entire process.

Set up your subscription to match your business model – from weekly to monthly or annually. Customization options extend to trial periods and discounted initial pricing, due to Shopify Subscriptions' comprehensive toolkit.

Managing subscriber bases becomes easier and more user-friendly, allowing modifications, cancellations, or upgrades to keep everything running smoothly.

Enhanced Checkout Customization:

‘Checkout Extensibility’, initially enhancing Shipping, Information, and Payment pages, has now expanded to Thank You and Order Status pages, ensuring a better experience from start to finish.
