TikTok’s potential Ban
You’d have to be living under a rock to have not caught the huge news this week that Tik Tok is facing a complete ban in the US over fears that China is using the app as a covert tool for spying and spreading propaganda.
CEO Chew testified before Congress, with members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee raising their concerns about how much access the Chinese government has to user data, as well as how much influence the Chinese Communist Party has over it. Chew also published videos from the official TikTok brand page on TikTok, encouraging users to fight for their rights to keep using the app.
Twitter to change it’s two factor authentication and start removing Legacy Blue checkmarks
Twitter is pushing Twitter Blue in new ways - by making changes to their two-factor authentication (2FA) system, and removing ‘legacy’ blue checkmarks. SMS 2FA will only be available to Twitter Blue subscribers. This paid service offers the ability to edit tweets and upload better quality videos. Considering the fact that social media hacking is at an all-time high, making users pay for security will be bound to get people mad. Luckily there are other 2FA options that don’t require Twitter Blue.

TikTok Introduces Feature Allowing Users to Reset Their Personalized For You Page
TikTok has announced a new feature for its users - the ability to reset their For You page! When a user creates a new account on TikTok, the app's algorithm presents a broad range of content to help determine the user's interests. As the user interacts with the platform, the algorithm customizes their For You page to showcase content tailored to their preferences. The new reset feature allows users to refresh their For You page and discover fresh content if they find their current feed unengaging.
E-commerce Startups Adapt to the Pandemic-induced Shift in Shopping Trends
Despite rapid growth during the pandemic, European e-commerce companies are now faced with adapting to a shifting market. While consumer spending and venture capital funding have slowed down, the UK, Europe's largest e-commerce market, is seeing a sustained increase in online shopping. According to the Office for National Statistics, internet revenues now make up 27% of all retail sales in the UK as of January 2023, compared to 19% in February 2020. Although there has been a slight deceleration in e-commerce growth, this provides a great opportunity for companies to rethink and adjust their strategies to continue thriving in this exciting and dynamic industry.
Shopify and Google Cloud Integrate AI for Advanced E-commerce Capabilities
Shopify and Google Cloud have teamed up ahead of the highly anticipated Shoptalk 2023 event to announce an exciting new integration for retailers. This collaboration allows merchants using Shopify's Commerce Components, the enterprise retail solution, to utilize Google-quality search capabilities and AI innovations. With direct access to Google Cloud's Discovery Al solutions, enterprise brands on Shopify can now enhance their shopping experience with cutting-edge search and browsing technologies. Available globally in most languages, this integration provides retailers with the flexibility to create seamless and enjoyable shopping experiences for their customers.
