As you might have guessed from the title, this week there has been a lot of news on the future of ads. Which platforms are growing, which ones are struggling and a new player to the market.
Before you dive in, I will impart some agency wisdom…
Don’t panic
Be strategic
Traditional ad platforms (Meta, Google) aren’t dying and we’re still seeing impressive results for our clients. But we can’t dismiss the up-and-coming big players (TikTok we’re looking at you), which is why this year we expanded our services to include TikTok ads.
If you know your product and audience deeply, then you’ll know what platforms are the best place for your business to advertise. If your audience isn’t on TikTok, don’t go there.
If you’re struggling on your current platforms, read the latest advice from industry experts and test, test, test.

Streaming Ad Spend Grew 57% (Reaching $15.2B) In 2021
And the market is set to more than double from 2020 to 2022! Leading this growth is the Connected TV ad market (i.e. streaming sites) which is an indication of the sizable shift away from traditional TV viewing and the advertising opportunities there.
Amazon’s Retail Sales & Shares Fall in Q1
So what does this mean for eCommerce? Apparently a gloomy forecast for other eCommerce stocks. This highlights how difficult the environment has become for big e-commerce brands after their pandemic-driven boom with physical store sales up 17%. No need to panic yet but stay tuned as Shopify, Etsy and Wayfair release their Q1 reports this week.
TikTok Threating Ad Giants?
The latest tech earning reports showed weak ad revenue at Facebook, Google and Amazon. Economic and environmental factors are partly responsible but TikTok’s growing market share is proving to be a challenge. We’re on board with TikTok ads and this might be your sign to join too.
